CHANDIGARH, Haryana: The alliance of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) has dominated 25 municipal bodies out of a total of 46 in the local bodies’ elections held on June 18.

The local bodies’ elections were held on June 18, for the post of President for 18 municipal councils and 28 municipal committees in the state of Haryana.

Dr Inder Jeet, State Election Commission (SEC), said that BJP has secured the majority on 22 seats, while the JJP won three seats. While the Aam Aadmi Party and Indian National Lok Dal were able to win one seat each. On the other hand, independent candidates have prevailed in six seats.

Congress, on the other hand, decided to stay away from these elections, but some of the Congressmen have contested as individual candidates.

Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar tweeted after the announcement of the results, “Many congratulations to all candidates of the BJP who won the local bodies’ elections. This victory of yours is a victory of the trust of the people, which is showing continuously towards the BJP since 2014 and 2019. This victory is dedicated to the hardworking workers of the party”.
