YAMUNANAGAR: To alleviate traffic congestion and bottlenecks, the Yamunanagar-Jagadhri Municipal Corporation has begun the process of establishing an auto market in Yamunanagar’s Chandpur Colony.

The corporation has issued a tender for the establishment of an auto market, which will cost around Rs 2.48 crore. In the twin cities, there are around 500 auto mechanic shops and workshops. Most mechanics are said to have encroached on roads to store discarded autos, spare parts, and repair items, causing traffic congestion. “The corporation’s decision to open an auto market in Chandpur is welcome news. Residents and commuters would benefit from the opening of this market, according to Naveen Kumar, a resident.

Every day, traffic jams occur on several roads, including Rampura and Tejli roads. Yamunanagar’s Rampura Colony is the epicentre of motor mechanics. After locals complained about encroachments by auto mechanics, the Green Park Rampura Welfare Society threatened to boycott the assembly elections in 2019.
