NEW DELHI: The virus is alive and constantly evolving. The coronavirus and its variants can now travel better through the air, said a study published by the University of Maryland. Coronavirus spreads through the exhales of those infected with the virus. The researchers found that those infected with the Alpha variant put 43 to 100 times more virus into the air than those infected with the original variant of the virus.

Researchers advised people to strictly adhere to COVID protocols to restrict the virus’s spread. The study found that through the use of masks, the virus spread has been reduced by half.

Don Milton, Professor, University of Maryland School of Public Health, emphasized the increased importance of better ventilation and the use of tight-fitting masks. He said that the study provides evidence that airborne transmission of the variants of coronavirus is even more contagious.
