CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu: The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, M K Stalin, virtually launched 500 Urban Health and Wellness Centres (UHWCs) in the state. These Urban Health Centres are located in areas governed by the local authorities including Greater Chennai Corporation and are designed to serve as additional units of the Urban Primary Health Centres.
An official release stated that 500 centers have been constructed with a total cost of ₹125 crore, with each center costing ₹25 lakh. Madurai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Coimbatore, and Vellore are among the regions where the services could be availed.
A doctor, nurse, health inspector, and sanitary worker would be on duty, available from 8 AM to noon and from 4 PM to 8 PM in every UHWC to cater to around 25,000 people in the given region.
A total of 500 doctors, nurses, health inspectors, and sanitary workers have been appointed. The UHWCs would also offer a wide range of healthcare services including yoga and maternity care.
