TN: Madurai Collector advises proper disposal of e-waste

MADURAI: The District Collector of Madurai has advised the public to follow the guidelines notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change for e-waste disposal.

MADURAI: The District Collector of Madurai has advised the public to follow the guidelines notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest, and Climate Change for e-waste disposal.  

Dr Aneesh Sekhar, Collector, Government of Tamil Nadu, stated that the collection and processing of e-waste can be carried out only by authorized recyclers, dismantlers, authorized refurbishers, and Extended Producers Responsibility (EPR) authorized producers. Also, urban local bodies are qualified to collect and channelize discarded products to authorized dismantlers or recyclers.

He further stated that burning and processing of e-waste by unauthorised units and illegal trading requires constant monitoring and action will be taken against violators of the e-waste management rules, 2016 in accordance with the environment protection act, 1986.
