CHENNAI, Tami Nadu: The Government of Tamil Nadu has presented the budget for 2024-25, where ₹2,500 crore has been earmarked for the upgradation of 4,457 km of roads in urban local bodies. Similarly, ₹946 crore has been given for drinking water and sewage infrastructure.
Thangam Thenarassu, Minister for Finance, Government of Tamil Nadu, presented the budget for 2024-2025 in the state legislative assembly. In his budget scheme, the minister highlighted the several initiatives of the government regarding infrastructure, industry, education, environmental sustainability, artificial intelligence and stability across the state.
The upgradation of the roads will improve connectivity and mobility within urban areas of the state while improving access to clean drinking water and sewage is essential for the betterment of public health and sanitation.
Apart from that, the budget also encapsulates the state government’s strategies to implement the Urban Green Scheme to give impetus to environment conservation and sustainable urban development in line with the government’s commitment towards environmental stewardship and green infrastructure.
The budget also aims to create a new IT park in Coimbatore for ₹1,100 crore. Another industrial park of SIPCOT will come up in Thanjavur at a cost of ₹120 crore to foster economic growth and boost employment generation.
Additionally, 45 polytechnic institutes will also be upgraded to upskill the workforce, preparing them for Industry 4.0.
