NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, launched the ‘City Beauty Competition’ on April 26, 2023, wherein all the local bodies of the country can take part through an online process.
The competition intends to encourage and recognise the transformational efforts made across the country to create beautiful, innovative and inclusive public spaces.
Wards and cities taking part in this competition will be judged based on the five parameters (i) Accessibility; (ii) Amenities; (iii) Activities; (iv) Aesthetics; (v) Ecology. Selected wards and cities that have done exceptional work to create such spaces will be awarded at the city and state levels. Most beautiful public spaces created under four categories, including Waterfronts, Green Spaces, Tourist/ Heritage spaces and Market/Commercial places, would be awarded at the state level. Shortlisted entries would then be sent for the consideration of national-level awards. The last date to participate in the ‘City Beauty Competition’ is July 15, and the local bodies participating in the competition are required to submit data/documents, including photos, videos, presentations and self-reported baseline information. This information has to be provided on an online portal, and the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) will be providing handholding support to participants as a knowledge partner.
