NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has extended the deadline to geo-tag commercial and residential properties in the national capital. MCD informed that the civic body has extended the deadline for owners to geo-tag the properties to February 29, 2024.  If the owners still fail to geo-tag their properties, they will not get any rebate on lumpsum payment of tax by June 30, 2024, in the financial year 2024-2025.

The civic body has extended the deadline in response to the property owners’ complaints who have been facing technical glitches preventing them from submitting their details to the urban local body.  MCD’s order read, “…It has come to the notice of the Department that a large number of taxpayers using iPhone (iOS version) due to some technical glitches or due to some other reasons, have not been able to geo-tag their properties by due date. This issue is being handled on priority and will soon be resolved.”

Geo-tagging of property means digitally mapping a property with a Geographical Information System (GIS). To geo-tag their properties, owners must download MCD’s mobile app, select their current location while being present at their properties and link it with any Unique Property Identification Code (UPIC).

The civic body has also asked the owners who have not yet registered themselves on MCD’s property tax portal to register their properties by generating UPIC.
