KALYAN: Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has set up an online monitoring system so that the residents can know the status of water released from the sewage treatment plants (STPs). The system has been installed in two of its STPs namely Adharwadi and Barave. As per KDMC, the system will be linked to the website of Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) and the water quality will be uploaded regularly to the website.

Sapna Koli, City Engineer, KDMC, said that the main purpose behind this is to keep a check on whether effective water treatment is done as per the standards. Moreover, the water quality will be uploaded regularly and will be available for everybody to access, she added.

KDMC has chosen two plants for now but in some time, all the five STPs in the region will be equipped with this system. Adharwadi has a capacity of treating 25 million liters per day (MLD) sewage but 22 MLD is being treated presently. However, the capacity of Barave is 15 MLD whereas 10 MLD is treated at present. The treated water is used for gardening purposes by the civic body in the region.
