NEW DELHI: India fell back on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as planned by the 2030 agenda of Unite Nations. India ranked lower than four South Asian countries due to the challenges corresponding to 17 SDGs including SDG-6, according to the recently released ‘State of India’s Environment Report 2021’.
The SDG-6 goal necessitates ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all by 2030. SDG -6 out of all the goals holds a special focus because of its direct impact on those parameters which are important to achieve other goals such as health, livelihood, and food security. Thus, it remains a huge task for India to ensure accessibility of clean water and sustainable sanitation for all in the country.
India has made massive progress towards maintaining the accessible flow of water and sanitation in recent months. Moreover, Mission Paani, an initiative by News 18 and Harpic India, are the campaigns launched to amplify the initiatives for clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. Such campaigns aim to bring the innovations together to ensure safe drinking water, hygienic living, and access to safe sanitation.
