SHARM EL SHEIKH: During the 27th Conference of Parties (COP27) in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, India expressed its reservation on the issue of expanding the scope of emission mitigation targets to include agricultural emissions as well.

Negotiation on agricultural emissions is a special effort of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change titled Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture.

Indian delegation informed Press Trust of India (PTI) that the country has accused rich nations of contesting and blocking pro-farmer and pro-poor decisions, which endanger the foundation of food security. The country argued that the developed nations are distracting the focus from the international climate regime by “searching for cheaper solutions abroad.”

The country highlighted that the current climate crisis is not due to agricultural emissions but because of the historical emissions of developed countries.
