GURUGRAM: Manohar Lal Khattar, Chief Minister, Haryana, will inaugurate three projects worth Rs 260 crore soon. The first project, named ‘Parivartan’, is related to replacing diesel auto-rickshaws with battery-operated three-wheelers in the city. The other two are about waste to energy plant in Sonipat and for improving the water supply in the State.
Under the Parivartan scheme, e-rickshaws will be replacing over 2,000 diesel autos. According to the CM’s address, the project will cost Rs 6 crore. The Environmental Pollution Control Authority (EPCA) had banned the operation of diesel autos in Delhi.
The three-wheeler, though a great solution to urban mobility, is one of the key sources of pollution. 10 years after the introduction of EPCA, the Government of NCT of Delhi had introduced another law on similar lines to stop the use of the polluting three-wheelers.
Due to the lack of alternatives and the absence of metro connectivity in all areas, they continue to function.
The authorities have now decided to incentivize the drivers who decide to switch to e-rickshaws by providing it at a subsided rate. Parivartan project is a joint initiative of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon.
