Gadkari predicts India to have one crore EV sales annually by 2030

NEW DELHI: India is likely to see one crore Electric Vehicle (EV) sales annually and the segment is expected to generate about five crore jobs by 2030, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, said while addressing the 19th EV EXPO 2023, New Delhi. Gadkari stated, “As per the Vahan database, 34.54 lakh EVs are already registered in India.” He asserted that India has the potential to become the world’s number one EV maker and the government is committed to making India a self-reliant country in clean energy production and mass application. The transport minister further mentioned that the government has permitted retrofitting of existing polluting vehicles into hybrid and fully EVs. "The regulations have been finalised and technology demonstrations are been done successfully," he added.

Furthermore, the transport minister stated that the government has authorized the retrofitting of existing polluting vehicles into hybrid and fully electric vehicles. He added that the regulations have been finalized and technology demonstrations have been successfully conducted.
