NEW DELHI: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) recently stated that it has begun an anti-encroachment drive outside Lal Qila and Chandni Chowk metro stations. DMRC has also engaged local civic bodies for smooth action as part of the drive.
This anti-encroachment drive will continue till June 17 and street vendors, rickshaws, street carts, etc will be removed from the metro station premises as part of the drive. The drive was conducted at gate number 1 and 2 of the Lal Quila Metro station and gate number 5 of the Chandani Chowk Metro station.
In its statement, DMRC said that the drive could also be extended to other metro stations. The move aims to make the navigation of commuters easy.
Anuj Dayal, Principal Executive Director of corporate communications at DMRC, said, “This drive is being taken up to mitigate these inconveniences. DMRC also keeps writing about these issues to the agencies concerned from time to time.” DMRC has involved the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and the Delhi Police in this anti-encroachment exercise.
A similar exercise was conducted by the DMRC last month in over 11 metro stations, including Punjabi Bagh, Azadpur, Janakpuri West, Delhi Cantt, Nehru Enclave, Jasola Vihar, Shaheen Bagh, Mayur Vihar Phase 1, Welcome, Delhi Gate, Kashmere Gate and Chhatarpur metro stations.
