NEW DELHI: The market redevelopment project, proposed in the Rozgar budget last year by the Delhi Government, is soon to enter the implementation stage. The Government of Delhi has decided to rope in Delhi Municipal Corporation for the successful implementation of the project.

Redevelopment work of several markets, including Kamla Nagar, Khari Baoli, Lajpat Nagar, Sarojini Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Kirti Nagar, was scheduled to begin last year but could not be started as the sole local body in the national capital refused to give permission.

The official informed that the government has brought in the civic body as the executive agency for the implementation of the redevelopment project. Revamping the infrastructure facility in the area, improving accessibility, upgrading basic amenities and beautifying these markets to attract additional customers are some aims of the project. This entire redevelopment project will be completed in a phased manner.

Primary design for the redevelopment exercise is being prepared by experts and teams of architects will be appointed within 12 weeks to complete the project promptly.

Also, the Chief Minister hosted a high-level review meeting on Monday; Saurabh Bharadwaj, Minister for Industries, and concerned department representatives were also present there. The Market in Sarojini Nagar will be redeveloped in collaboration with the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Delhi Government is also planning to launch the ‘Dilli Bazar’ e-portal, a platform which will accommodate at least 10,000 vendors and work on this portal is in the final stages. As per the official, after six months of the launch, one lakh shops will be added to the portal to give them 24×7 access to a digital platform.
