NEW DELHI: The air pollution in the capital has been increasing at a shocking pace to dangerous levels. Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) remains in the ‘severe’ category mostly due to stubble burning in the adjoining states of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. On Tuesday, November 10, the AQI was recorded at 735 which is a new high this season, updated by System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).
According to estimates made by SAFAR, post noon, most of the areas including Delhi University, Mathura Road, Pusa Road, etc experienced AQI in ‘severe’ category. The AQI between 50 and 100 is termed as ‘satisfactory’, according to SAFAR.
The AQI in the National Capital Region was similar to Delhi with air quality in ‘severe’ category. Gurgaon and Noida recorded high AQI of 599 and 560 respectively on Tuesday, November 11. However, to tackle this, the National Green Tribunal has banned the use of all types of firecrackers till November 30.
