CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (CMC), in its general house meeting which takes place on a monthly basis, proposed a resolution, on Monday, February 28. The proposal entailed a plea seeking the constitution of a legislative assembly for Chandigarh so as to increase the political representation. This resolution has been passed with one voice on behalf of all 35 councilors of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to make growth-centric policies for the city, independently. The resolution has been sent to the local bodies department for consideration and action via the central government. “As the city sees a rise in number of councilors from 26 to 35 and foresees a further rise too, the beneficial resolution to this is to have an assembly for the city in order to augment the political base. Besides this, people’s voices will get a single platform to be raised and policies for planning and development to be devised. Everything would be carried out according to public opinion and keeping development as a key aspect,” stated Saurabh Joshi, a BJP councilor.
Moreover, councilor from AAP, Prem Lata, and councilors from SAD also supported the familiar thought, by mentioning that such a move will benefit the future growth of the city.
