NEW DELHI: An official informed on Tuesday that the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is planning to introduce a new solar policy to give impetus to renewable energy in the national capital. With this, the NDMC is preparing the ground for its ambitious plan of shifting to 100 per cent of renewable energy.

During a press conference, NDMC member Kuljeeg Chahal announced that the civic body plans to promote the establishment of grid-connected solar power plants. He added, “In addition to the broader arrangement of tying up with the renewable energy sources it is also incumbent upon the council to all possible potential of solar energy generation within its jurisdiction.”

He also said that NDMC to encourage solar power plants with net metering on all existing, upcoming or proposed buildings, including government offices, schools and other educational and research institutes, fire stations and hospitals etc.

The policy will cover all solar energy generation systems with a capacity of one KWp or more and all electricity consumers in the jurisdiction of the NDMC.

According to Chahal, the civic body should prioritise rooftop solar plants as its main source of renewable energy.
