GURUGRAM: Mukesh Kumar Ahuja, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), said on Monday, March 7, that the city has achieved 100 per cent door-to-door waste collection. He also added that the number of waste-burning spots has become zero as a result of their effort to curb pollution in the city.

Ahuja was speaking during a two-day “Dialogue Towards Clean Air” organised by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and Commissioner of Air Quality Management in collaboration with the state government of NCR cities. He added that around 70 per cent of the waste in Gurugram is segregated at source. “We have identified hotspots of waste burning around marketplaces, residential areas, slums, and by constituting special squads, their number has been brought down to zero. Now there are only a few stray incidents of waste being burnt in the open,” said Ahuja.

Open waste burning is a major issue in Gurugram and the residents regularly complaint to the authorities or on social media.
