GURUGRAM, Haryana: The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) has been directed by the Department of Urban Local Bodies in Haryana to conduct a physical survey of 294 illegal colonies in the state.

The Haryana government is looking to regularise these colonies as they meet all necessary criteria for regularisation and will add more revenue to the state treasury and the purse of urban local bodies. Regularisation will also bring developmental works to these colonies like laying electricity lines, installation of sewerage network etc.

Most of these colonies fall under the jurisdiction of the Gurugram Corporation, and a handful of them are on the land sold by Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (formerly known as Haryana Urban Development Authority). Ten colonies are close to the Air Force ammunition depot. Earlier, the state government regularised 13 illegal colonies in Gurugram, and 25 other colonies are also under construction. Gurugram civic body has prepared a list for the regularisation of 103 colonies, of which only 38 fulfil the criteria laid down by the ULB department for regularisation.
