YSRCP sweeps Andhra Pradesh civic polls

VIJAYAWADA: YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) swept the elections in Nellore Municipal Corporation and 11 out of the total 12 municipalities in Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) failed to make any significant advances in recently conducted elections to Nellore Municipal Corporation and other 12 municipalities. Darsi in Prakasam district was the only saving grace for them as TDP won 13 out of the total 20 wards.

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy thanked the people for the overwhelming mandate after the results were announced. The ruling party swept the elections and crushed the hopes of YSRCP to make any comeback in the state. Moreover, TDP was also defeated in Kuppam which had been the stronghold of former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu. YSRCP won 19 out of the total 25 wards in Kuppam.

Out of the total 54 divisions in Nellore, YSRCP won 46 in which the elections were held. The party also won Akiveedu in West Godavari, Jaggaiahpet and Kondapalli in Krishna district, Dachepalli and Gurazala in Guntur, Buchireddypalem in Nellore, Bethamcherla in Kurnool and Penukonda in Anantapur.
