NEW DELHI: Water supply in Delhi, which is 500 kilometres (km) downstream of where the flash flood hit in Uttarakhand recently, has been affected due to the high amount of mud and debris from the said incident which has caused around 50 casualties.
The Rishiganga Valley, Uttarakhand, which is 530 km upstream from Delhi is the main supplier of water to the Capital. The flood has caused the destruction of power valley and damaged the roads and bridges in the area. The water from this valley flows into the river Ganga and then from there it flows to Delhi.
Raghav Chadha, Vice-Chairperson, Delhi Water Board, advised the people to use water judiciously as the two important water treatment plants of the city are not working at full capacity due to dirty raw water.
