SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt: The northeastern state of Nagaland, for the first time, hosted a session at the United Nations Climate Conference COP 27, being held in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. Three senior officials who hosted the event include Dharmendra Prakash, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest (PCCF), M Senthil, Chief Conservator of Forest (CCF) and Dr Atoho Jakhalu, Director of Climate Studies and Knowledge Solutions Centre.
Jakhalu in a press release, called this a historic feat for Nagaland as the state hosted a global climate event and launched an international research initiative on indigenous conservation for the development and livelihood supported by UNESCO India, UNESCO LINKS Paris, University of Nagaland, Cambridge University Alumni Development Initiative (CaFNEI), Indigenous Research for North East, Department of Environment Forest and Climate Change and Climate Studies and Knowledge Solution Centre.
He also mentioned successful best practices, including the Tizu Valley Biodiversity Conservation and Livelihood Network.
