ULBs free to meet their recruitment needs: K N Nehru

CHENNAI, Tamil Nadu: K N Nehru, Minister of Municipal Administration, Government of Tamil Nadu, on Friday, September 2, in Virudhunagar announced that the state government has issued an order to the urban local bodies (ULBs) to meet their workforce requirement based on their needs and funds have been released for this purpose.

Nehru said that the Government of Tamil Nadu is planning to make the streets dustbin-free. The announcement came after a review meeting on development works in all the town panchayats, municipalities and the corporation of Sivakasi in Virudhunagar and Ramanathapuram districts.

K K S S R, Ramachandran, Minister of Revenue, Government of Tamil Nadu, and Thangam Thennarasu, Minister of Industry, Government of Tamil Nadu, were present during the meeting. In the meeting, Nehru’s attention was drawn to the lack of an adequate number of sanitary workers in the Virudhunagar municipality for 15 years. After which the minister said that the ULBs are free to meet their manpower requirement based on their needs.

He further added that the heads of civic bodies have been demanding the completion of underground drainage projects and drinking water projects priority basis. Apart from that, the demand also included roads, storm water drains and bus stands. The state government has pledged to provide all the necessary funds for this purpose.

Shiv Das Meena, Additional Chief Secretary (Municipal Administration and Drinking Water Supply), P Ponnaiah, Director of Municipal Administration, R. Selvaraj, Commissioner for Town Panchayats, V Dhakishinamoorthi, Managing Director (TWAD), J Meghanath Reddy, Virudhunagar Collector and K J Praveen Kumar, Ramanathapuram District Additional Collector were present during the meeting.
