MUMBAI: The Government of Maharashtra has brought out unified development control rules for all municipal corporations, councils and nagar panchayats in the entire state except Mumbai and some neighbouring areas. The state Urban Development Department (UDD) clarified that areas including Thane, Navi Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Nashik, Nagpur, Solapur, and Kohlapur would come under the ambit of the new rules.
The standardised rules have been introduced to leave little or no space for misinterpretation of real estate construction laws. The new control rules are likely to bring uniformity in width of roads, size of rooms, etc. However, height of buildings would vary depending on the plot size and floor space index potential.
Bhushan Gargini, Secretary, UDD, said, “Unified Development Control and Promotion Regulations is a single set of rules which will be applicable to the entire state except areas under the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, Maharshtra Industrial Development Corporation, Mumbai Port Trust, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust, eco-sensitive zones, and the Navi Mumbai Airport Notified Area.”
