SATARA: Satara district of Maharashtra was hit by two earthquakes of 4.8 and 3 on June 20, morning. No casualty or damage to property has been reported so far, an official in the district administration said. According to an account furnished by an official of India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) center in Pune, the first tremors were experienced at 7:47 am followed by the latter at 8:27 am in Satara district, which is located around 120 km from Pune. The quakes caused people to rush out of their residences. This incident took place hours post mild earthquakes struck western Odisha on Wednesday, June 19.

According to the official, the epicenters of the two earthquakes were recorded at depths of 10 km and 5 km respectively.

“People should not panic as both the earthquakes were of low intensity,” Pune-based seismologist Arun Bapat said.
