Telangana to monitor public toilets: Pattana Pragathi Toilet Monitoring System

NALGONDA: For smooth functioning and better management of public toilets, urban local bodies (ULBs) will be setting up a real-time monitoring system in Telangana. Calling it the ‘Pattana Pragathi Toilet Monitoring System (PPTMS)’, 141 ULBs will be working in partnership with the Administrative Staff College of India. 

“.@cdmatelangana in partnership with @ASCIMEDIA has developed an ICT-based monitoring system of public toilets to make @livabletownsts  in TGS. First state to invest in monitoring, at scale”, tweeted V Srinivasa Chary, Professor and Director, Urban Governance, ASCI. 

Information regarding toilet infrastructure development, operational features, and maintenance plans will be accessible on a web portal. The authorities will be developing a mobile application for regularly monitoring the cleanliness and maintenance records. 

The respective ULBs will be collecting and analyzing the data to further determine the success of the ambitious system. In the selected 141 ULBs, over 9,088 public toilets have been set up. Municipal staff member inspects the public toilets every Tuesday and Friday.
