Telangana notifies two new urban development authorities

HYDERABAD: The Government of Telangana recently notified the constitution of two new urban development authorities (UDA) – Mahabubnagar Urban Development Authority and Neelagiri Urban Development Authority. The Mahabubnagar Urban Development Authority will comprise of Mahabubnagar, Bhootpur, Jadcharela and 142 peripheral villages. The Neelagiri Urban Development Authority will include Nalgonda municipality and 42 peripheral villages of the district.

Arvind Kumar, Special Chief Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, Government of Telangana said that these UDAs have been created to ensure a well-integrated and well-planned infrastructure development around major cities and town. He said that the growth of urbanisation in peri-areas would happen in a planned manner and not as knee-jerk reaction. The Mahabubnagar and Neelagiri UDA will be headed by their respective district collector as their chairman.

Kumar cited the success of the Hyderabad Development Authority in shaping urbanisation around the city of Hyderabad. He said that the state of Telangana therefore had accordingly constituted several UDAs since its formation.
