SRINAGAR: As the cases of fire incidents spike up in recent times, Srinagar Smart City authorities are preparing to gear up their fire resilience by upgrading all of the fire stations as part of the projects. The authorities will be strengthening and integrating all 23 fire stations of the city and install over 100 fire hydrants at various locations. A smart city official said that the move would see each fire station equipped with requisite fire-fighting apparatus like fire tenders of various sizes and capacities, firefighting boats around Dal lake and the installation of a smart control room. The department would also be setting up wireless apparatus at 80 different locations.

A total of 15 small fire tenders which would enhance the department’s ability to access congested locations would be procured along with large fire tenders with 7500 liter capacities. Along with the procurement of six firefighting boats for vigil in Dal lake, two fire stations would also be developed in the region. Shahid Choudhary, Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of Srinagar Smart City, after visiting several fire stations of the city and assessing their requirements, on January 2, said that the plan was determined “in tandem with the unique requirements of the city”.
