NEW DELHI: The Government of Delhi announced a grant of Rs 1051 crore for the three municipal corporations to pay salaries of healthcare workers and other employees on Saturday, May 15. Manish Sisodia, Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, said in a virtual briefing that amidst the second coronavirus wave and constrained circumstances due to the lockdown, the state government took the decision to ensure that people helping the city in fighting the pandemic receive their salaries.

According to Sisodia, doctors and other frontline workers of the civic bodies are not receiving their salaries, alleging that it was so because of mismanagement and corruption in the municipal corporations. He said that therefore, Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister of Delhi, has released a total of Rs 1051 crore for South, North, and East Delhi municipal corporations so that they can pay salaries of their employees. Meanwhile, Jai Prakash, Mayor of North Delhi Municipal Corporation, said that the grant was released by the Delhi government only after writing multiple letters to the Chief Minister and the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi.
