NEW DELHI: In a bid to check the proper removal of construction debris from public places and city roads which cause dust pollution, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), on Sunday, October 20, conducted a pollution drive. Moreover, the officials also slapped fines for open burning of waste, rubber and plastic in all the four zones. “In south zone around 209 cubic tonnes of debris was removed with the help of 24 tempos and 38 trolleys,” said a statement by SDMC.

The south corporation claimed that it has issued around 302 challans amounting upto Rs 27,55, 000. A statement by the corporation stated that around 69 challans were issued by the night patrolling teams for open dumping of construction debris, burning of leaves etc. and another 15 challans were issued for causing dust pollution by construction sites.The south corporation in a statement said, “Further, the zones have also been taking action against throwing waste into drains, challans on violation of SWM by laws apart from issuing general challans”.
