NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Friday, December 3, directed the Government of India and states in NCR to submit a proposal for switching all the industrial units in the region to cleaner fuels such a piped natural gas (PNG), failing to which these units will be shut down, said the bench.

These directions have been made by the bench headed by N V Ramana, Chief justice of India while considering the immediate steps taken by the central government and Commission for Air Quality Management in order to address Delhi’s air pollution worries. A special Enforcement Task Force has also been set up to ensure timely and efficient execution of the Commission’s direction. However, the court allowed the Delhi government to commence the construction of new COVID-19 hospitals as per the commission’s directions in this regard.
