NEW DELHI: The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) launched a campaign on December 1, where people can get masks in exchange for plastic waste at the collection centre located in Connaught Place. The mini collection centre has been set up in the premises of Charkha Museum especially for the campaign. Vijay Kumar Dev, Chief Secretary, Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), launched the ‘Plastic Lao, Mask Pao’ campaign in partnership with United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

In November 2020, Dehradun Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with some social organisations, had distributed around 5000 face masks in exchange for plastic waste including multi-layered packaging, PET bottles, and single-use polythene bags. Prior to this, a small club in Burdwan district of West Bengal also made an effort in initiating a bank that took waste plastic and plants as deposit and gave masks and sanitisers in return.

The collection centre set up by NDMC in Delhi will distribute reusable cloth masks in exchange for plastic, and will remain open on all days between 11 AM to 5 PM.
