Pune Municipal Corporation decides to allot Rs 26 crore to expand green cover in 5 years

PUNE: The civic administration has decided to allot Rs 26.25 crore on increasing green cover in civic limits. As per the proposal, Rs 5.25 crore will be spent on planting local trees in areas of Bhamburda and Warje. The standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation approved this proposal on Monday, July 19.

“The funds will be incorporated to expand the thick green shed on the hills over next five years,” Hemant Rasane, Chairman, the standing committee of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), said. Further, building hedges, water tanks and other facilities on the hills will also be undertaken as one of the constituent of the project. The project will be carried out in association with the forest department, local organizations, and citizens.  A separate Joint forest management committee has been formed for this programme, officials informed.

There is 1826 acres of forest area in Pune city and PMC plans to conserve the greenery and hills under this programme. PMC has entered into a joint agreement with the forest department for the same.
