PANCHKULA: The Municipal Corporation, Panchkula is aiming at creating new sectors via land pooling policy. A proposal for the same will be presented in a house meeting which will take place on March 7. This will be the first time that the developing sectors will fall under the local civic body, instead of the Haryana Urban Development Authority or the Housing Board.

According to Mayor Kulbhushan Goyal, as per Section 42 (1) of 42 A of Municipal Corporation Act 1994, the development of urban areas falls under the jurisdiction of the civic body. As per the proposal, all the sectors would be developed by the corporation and land pooling policy would be adopted on the lines of Mohali. For the past several years, Panchkula’s development has been limited to 32 areas. Many projects were constructed under the land pooling system in Punjab and Gujarat, according to Goyal, but the scheme wasn’t really implemented in Haryana. He predicted that land values will skyrocket following the introduction of this legislation. In lieu of one acre pooled by the owner, Goyal said the insurance will provide a 1000 to 1200 sq yard residential plot and a business plot. The corporation would not have to pay money to buy land, and there would be no risk of a court-ordered enhancement. He added the plan would be referred to the Department of Urban Local Bodies, Haryana, when it was approved by the house. Following its approval, efforts will be made to begin the project.
