ITANAGAR, Arunachal Pradesh: The Government of Arunachal Pradesh signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Creduce and Hydel Consultants Private Limited on May 11, for the development of Bamboo plantation in the state.
Arunachal Pradesh Bamboo Resource and Development Agency (APBRDA) signed the pact on behalf of the state government. According to the officials, this would be the world’s largest bamboo cultivation drive under the public-private partnership model. Under this, 100,000 hectares of forest and village land will be used for the cultivation of Bamboo grass. This joint venture (JV) is a 30-year project divided into three decadal phases.
Bamboo is also known as green gold because its growth is faster than any other plantation crops and trees, and it employs a vast population in the northeast and other parts of India. Additionally, a bamboo plantation acts as an effective carbon sink. One hectare of bamboo plantation could sequestrate up to 10,000 kilograms of carbon dioxide. Thus, providing a nature-based solution to combat global warming.
