Over 40,000 applicants for 1 Lakh Housing scheme in Bengaluru

BENGALURU, Karnataka: Under the 1 Lakh Housing scheme of the Chief Minister of Karnataka, Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation Limited (RGHCL) has received more than 40,000 applications.

Chief Minister’s 1 Lakh Houses scheme was first introduced in the state budget of 2017-18. This scheme aims to provide affordable houses to the poor population in the state. Under this scheme, 1 lakh houses are planned to be built, in a phased manner. Construction has already begun on 42,984 houses and another 45,499 houses have also been sanctioned.

The state government will provide subsidies on only 1 BHK house, which is estimated to be worth Rs 10.6 lakhs. For the SC/ST applicants, the subsidy will be up to Rs 3.5 lakh, and for other people, the subsidy will be Rs 2.7 lakh.

Applications under the scheme were invited by the state government from August 2021 to March 2022 during which RGHCL received more than 40,000 applications. However, till date, only 6227 applicants have paid the initial deposit of Rs 1 lakh. Work on 14,322 houses has also started under the Phase II of the scheme.
