NEW DELHI: While much about the highly transmissible Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus remains unclear, researchers have stated that this strain’s symptoms are distinct from those of others. Aside from the three main symptoms of the Omicron type, people should seek medical help right away if they notice evidence of the strain on their skin, lips or nails, according to The Mirror.

People infected with the new super mutant strain of the COVID-19 report a wide spectrum of symptoms, according to the American Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Depending on our skin tone, the CDC warns that pale, grey or blue-colored skin, lips, or nail beds can signal low amount of oxygen in blood, according to the article. These indications are also referred to as “emergency warning signs” for which we should seek immediate medical attention, according to the health organisation. Breathing problems, chest pain or pressure, bewilderment, and the difficulty to wake up or stay awake are all possible symptoms.

Patients infected with Omicron experience significant exhaustion. However, this is not limited to any particular age range. According to Angelique Coetzee, Chairperson, South African Medical Association, young patients can sometime demonstrate excessive weariness. There is also no significant decline in oxygen saturation. During the second wave of COVID-19 in India, patients’ oxygen saturation values dropped dramatically. Patients infected with the Omicron strain have not complained of a loss of taste or smell, which are common symptoms in other strains. However, they often suffer scratchy throat.
