BHUBANESWAR:  Naveen Patnaik, Chief Minister, Odisha, has announced that the state has managed to achieve the milestone of having a higher number of people treated than those affected by Covid-19. The state’s recovery rate stands at 56 per cent. Although it is a milestone and it is quite high as compared to the national average, Odisha still has a long way to go.

The state’s recovery rate still ranks it third in India with Andhra Pradesh securing the first position with a recovery rate of 67 per cent. Andhra Pradesh is followed by Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, with a 59 per cent recovery rate and Odisha comes third.

Another positive sign for the state has been that the number of people being treated and sent back home has been higher than the number of new cases identified in the state since last five consecutive days.

Pradipta Kishore Mohapatra, Additional Chief Secretary (Health), Government of Odisha, said, “It is a good sign that more and more Covid patients are recovering without any complications. Since most cases in the State are asymptomatic or have mild symptoms, we are discharging them as per the Union Health Ministry policy prepared in consultation with Indian Council of Medical Research.”
