BHUBANESHWAR: All eyes are on the Cuttack Municipal Corporation(CMC) as streets are getting flooded with the monsoon showers due to the lack of preparedness by the civic body. A failure to repair damaged drains and unclog the overflowing sewage has taken a toll on the roads and put the citizens at a risk. The majority of the drains have a faulty guard wall that lay damaged and is yet to be repaired by the CMC. Locals and the shareholders have several times knocked on the doors of CMC but to no avail, reported the New Indian Express.
The CMC handles over 1700 km of drains, which include 520 km of surface drains. Recently, the CMC has made headlines several times for its poor management of drains that are overflowing onto the streets. An eight feet wide road in Sutahat has been reduced to a mere three feet due to erosion caused by the drain water.
Bhagyadhar Sahoo, Superintending Engineer, CMC, said that they have initiated the process of repairing the drains and the road in Sutahat. He further assured that the civic body takes cognizance of its recent shortcomings and that they are actively working against them.
