BHUBANESWAR: A master plan will be prepared by the Odisha Assembly’s standing committee of the Department of Housing and Urban Development on how to resolve issues related to waterlogging and drainage systems in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack during the monsoon season.

The twin city’s municipal corporations went through a series of interrogations as the legislator inquired the reason behind the continued waterlogging in the cities. The situation has further deteriorated despite the state allocating huge funds to rectify the situation.

On Tuesday, October 6 it was decided that the House committee headed by Prafulla Samal, Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA),  Biju Janata Dal will be visiting 75 identified vulnerable spots in the twin cities.

Afterward, a proposal will be submitted to the Government of Odisha to allocate additional funds to either cover the open drains or erect a 10-ft high net on both sides of the drains.

Mohammad Moquim, MLA, Congress from the Cuttack-Barabati constituency informed that the drain work to be expedited in his area will be completed in November and that a detailed report on it will be submitted soon.
