RAJKOT: Newly merged areas of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) will be receiving water connections within a year. The waterworks department has already released tenders to lay the Ductile Iron (DI) pipeline in these areas and the work is expected to start in the next three to four months.

Tenders have already been floated to lay the DI pipeline in Jamnagar Road, Nageshwar, Vardhman Nagar, Raiyadhar, and other areas. The entire project costs around Rs 26 crore. This project will benefit a population of around 70,000 as these newly merged areas that were deprived of basic facilities before, will be getting access to the same, now as one consolidated unit.

As some of the households get piped water through gram panchayat sources, the majority of the population depends on groundwater. Once the pipelines are laid, all the areas will be linked to having piped water, said Pushker Patel, Chairman, standing committee, RMC.
