HYDERABAD, Telangana: The Government of Telangana, on Monday, September 12, presented a bill seeking to amend the Telangana Municipalities Act 2019. The new amendment will increase the period for moving a no-confidence motion against a sitting Chairperson or Mayor of an urban local body (ULB) in the state to four years, while earlier, it could be used once in three years.
The bill aims to amend Section 37 of the Telangana Municipalities Act 2019, which deals with the matter of no confidence motion against a chairperson or vice-chairperson. The provision that prescribes the limit of three years on the usage of no confidence motion is going to expire on January 26, 2023.
With this, the state government is aiming to eliminate the threat of municipal councillors or corporators using the no-confidence motion as blackmail.
