NIUA, AIILSG organise SWACHH BHARAT MISSION SWM CITY CLUSTER EXPOSURE WORKSOP 2018

SWM SWM Workshop Bodh GayaBODH GAYA: National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA) and All India Institute of Local Self Government (AIILSG), on behalf of Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, are jointly organising a three-day exposure workshop on Solid Waste Management at Hotel Anand International, Bodh Gaya from October 24 to 26, 2018. The workshop is being organised under Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban.

Officials from Urban Local Bodies of the State are participating in the workshop. Indu Kumari,
Nodal officer from Urban Development Department, Ajay Kumar Executive officer from Nagar Panchayat Bodh Gaya and Pashim Tiwari Technical Director, All India Institute of Local Self Government, Delhi were also present during the inauguration.

The main purpose of the three-day workshop is to recognise the issues, challenges, and constraints of Solid Waste Management, and enhance the understanding of the SWM Rules 2016. The workshop also targets to make officials aware of the various approaches, technologies and their financial implications which can be implemented in the ULBs.

Rajiv Kumar, Project Head, AIILSG-Delhi enlightened the gathering about the Swachh Bharat Mission. He talked about various policies under SBM, what are the methodologies applied by different ULBs to properly manage the solid waste generation, and recycling and reuse of waste produced daily. He briefed on how this program is going to help the cities in keeping their cities clean. Sunny Kumar, Engineer, Nagar Parishad Dehri, “ I think that while attending this workshop, I am going to get more exposure to the best practices that are applied in different municipalities pan India which have proven effective for them for Solid Waste Management. As we know that that waste production is increasing by the day, I am looking forward to learn new methodologies, which I can suggest and apply in my municipality for efficient waste management”

Ajay Kumar Singh, Sanitary Inspector from Nagar Panchayat, Mohniya, said “I think this workshop is a great initiative for people involve in maintaining the cleanliness of the city. I am looking forward to learn more about the new ways for waste disposal and recycling of waste products”
