NEW DELHI: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has formed a panel for the inspection of the illegal encroachment of a park in Ghaziabad, from where factories have been operating. The panel was instructed to ensure that the ground should be restored within a month. The NGT decided to take action after a plea was filed by a resident of Ghaziabad, who reported about the encroachment in a park located in Rajiv Colony of Sahibabad and sought the removal of the illegal plastic and textile factories which were operating from the said location without valid consent.

The panel comprises of Ghaziabad district magistrate, Ghaziabad Development Authority’s vice chairman, SSP, Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board member-secretary and the Municipal Commissioner. The NGT marked UPPCB as the nodal agency for coordination during the probe and the panel has been asked to meet within a week to plan and execute the order.

“This will be in addition to prosecution and recovery of compensation for damages to the environment,” said the bench.
