HYDERABAD: The Government of Telangana is all set to construct Faecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTP) at 71 spots across the state, apart from Hyderabad. This announcement was made by KT Rama Rao, Minister of Urban Development, Government of Telangana, on Saturday, July 17, at the launch of an FSTP at Nalla Cheruvu in Uppal.

The FSTP plant in Uppal was built by Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board with the capacity to treat 40 kilo litres of waste per day (KLD) to recycle the faecal waste collected from septic tanks where underground sewerage facility is not available. Rao, while launching 87 septic tank cleaning vehicles from Peoples’ Plaza, Necklace Road, said that Hyderabad is way ahead of other cities in the country in terms of sewage treatment.

The FSTP plants at various destinations will treat the waste collected from septic tanks of villages within the outer ring road. Rao added that earlier, the faecal waste was deposited in lakes, nalas and other water bodies, which used to harm the environment and public health. Moreover, two more FSTPs are under construction in Nagarm and Injapur villages.
