INDORE, Madhya Pradesh: The Pollution Control Board of Madhya Pradesh has ordered four urban local bodies to take immediate measures to stop the release of untreated wastewater from the cities into the Narmada River.
The board has served notice to the local bodies of Sanawad, Mandleshwar, Badwater, and Maheshwar to install Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for treating wastewater before discharging it into water bodies.
S N Dwivedi, Regional officer, Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board stated, “A team of officials from Pollution Control Board carried out an inspection to check the health of water in the Narmada river and found that untreated wastewater was going into the river because there were no STPs at these locations. We have asked the local bodies to take measures to immediately stop the release of wastewater and install STPs.”
The board issued the notice under the Water (Prevention and Control) Act, 1974 for not following mandatory norms laid under the act.
