MUMBAI: Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) has sailed a proposal to the Government of Maharashtra, to appoint the agency as its Special Planning Authority (SPA) for undertaking development projects of certain regions in the extended Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) as well.

In the last month, MMRDA spotted around eight underdeveloped regions that they believe could be further exploited. These regions in Mumbai are the Trans-Harbour project impact zone, Poynad region, Kharbao region, Neral region, and Pen region. During the deliberations, it was proposed that MMRDA should undertake the responsibility of development of these regions because it will give impetus to the well-planned development and also will aid the authority to have a novel source of revenue for the ambitious projects.

Furthermore, implementation of such big projects there is a possibility of rapid development in areas like Mumbai Trans Harbor Project, Impact zone, Poynad area, Kharbao area, and Alibag area. Thus, if MMRDA takes up the responsibility of these projects then the development will be done in a well-planned manner.
