SILIGURI: The Government of West Bengal is planning on implementing a comprehensive drinking water project for Siliguri in West Bengal. This Mega drinking water project will cost around Rs 470 crore and the project will be carried out under the Centre’s Jal Jeevan Mission.
Gautam Deb, Chairperson of the Board of Administration (BOA), Siliguri, had a detailed discussion on this mega drinking project. “The Centre is yet to improvise the modalities for water supply in urban areas. Everything will be finalised within two months and Siliguri will be given priority,” said Deb. A section of the Siliguri Municipal Corporation (SMC) believes that once the project is implemented, it will help supply water even in extended areas of Siliguri.
This water project has faced inordinate delay for a long time now, an SMC official said. Keeping in mind the rising population in Siliguri, the existing water structure remains inadequate. Moreover, this project will help maintain an adequate stock of water in times of need. To meet the water supply-demand, BOA has sent the detailed mega water project report to the state government for approval.
