GURGAON, Haryana: At the end of the financial year 2023-24, the Municipal Commissioner of Gurgaon (MCG) has earned ₹250 crore, which is only 50 per cent of the target set by the municipal corporation. However, the civic official said that overall property tax collection has increased by 30 per cent compared to the previous financial year.

Officials said that though property tax is one of the major of income for municipal corporations, its collection is by no means easy considering the discrepancies in the property tax data. They added that many people filed objections to rectifying their tax data online, which hampered the tax collection.

Narhari Singh Banger, Municipal Commissioner, said, “Residential, institutional, commercial and industrial properties in the city have to pay property tax as per the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. An interest of 18 per cent is levied every year if the property tax dues are not paid every fiscal year by March 31. Properties of defaulters will be sealed and auctioned.”
